Meet the Editors

Ian Wray is Honorary Professor at Liverpool University’s Heseltine Institute for Public Policy, Practice and Place. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, Policy Advisor to Lord Kerslake’s UK2070 Commission on UK regional inequalities, and Vice Chair of World Heritage UK. He was Chief Planner, Northwest Development Agency, 2000–2010. During the 1980s he worked as a journalist, especially for the Architects Journal and Management Today. He is the author of Great British Plans (2016) and No Little Plans (2019). He is currently researching a book on cities and creativity, focusing on Britain’s role in creating the rock music industry.

Lucy Natajaran is Associate Professor at UCL’s Bartlett School of Planning, and is one of the editors of Built Environment. Previously, she has worked for the UK’s professional planning institute, the RTPI, as well as NatCen Social Research, the Commonwealth Association of Planners, and the Global Planners Network. Currently she is a member of the UK 2070 Commission’s Steering Group, and Secretary General of Territoire Europe. All her research centres on public interest policies, and the roles and knowledges of diverse ‘lay’ and professional actors in strategic decision-making.
